American Language The United States of America has no official language, English is the de facto national language.

About 82 percent of the population (215 million) aged five years and older, spoke only English at home. Spanish, spoken by over 10 percent of the population at home, is the second most common language. Immigrants seeking naturalization must know English.

English is a West Germanic language originating in England, and the first language for most people in Australia, Canada, the Commonwealth Caribbean, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
